The State of Vermont is experiencing a significant rain and flooding event that started on 7/9/23. Currently Thetford is under a Flash Flood Warning due to rain, water runoff on steep slopes and small rivers and streams breaching their banks. At this time (8:16am) we have no reports of active flooding or damage in Thetford. While the town Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is not currently activated, we are in a monitoring phase where we are participating with the State EOC briefings, monitoring up the minute weather reports, and working with emergency services and DPW to monitor road conditions. Significant flooding has already occurred in both the Northern and Southern areas of the state with water rescues currently underway in several towns for trapped residents.
Please do not travel (drive, walk, bike) through any flooded roadways. Please do not drive beyond road closed signs as they are there for your safety.
More information will continued to be posted as it is available both here and on social media. Please consider signing up for a Vermont Alert (VTAlert) account to receive updates and life safety alerts.
