Emergency Management Update 7/7/17 8:21pm
The Emergency Operations Center continued to operate in a monitoring function today. DPW focused on clearing our culverts today as well as continued road repair.
Members of the emergency management group participated in a call with the National Weather Service this morning. We are expecting some rain tonight and tomorrow, but it is expected to be light. Please do keep an eye on the weather and if we do receive heavy rain, be alert for changing road conditions.
Jersey barriers and temporary traffic control signals were added to Tucker Hill just east of UV Dam gate and on Route 132 between Tucker Hill and Ulman rd. These will remain in place for some time as the road work in this area is significantly more complicated. Additionally, jersey barriers were placed on Gove Hill Road just up from Route 132.
As you know, many of our gravel roads are passable, but very rough. Barrels and barricades remain in place in many areas. It is for your safety that these warning devices are in place. Please DO NOT move cones, barricades or signs.
Per the Army Corps of Engineers project manager, please do not enter the Union Village Dam area through any of the gates or the trails. The area has been severely damaged, the roads are impassable and continuing to crumble, and there is still a large amount of water being held back creating a pond and over the roads in that area. This water is NOT safe as there is a tremendous amount of debris in the water including portable toilets. The gates are locked and access needs to be limited to the clean-up crews and Army Corps personnel only. Signs have been posted on all of the gates. As noted in several news articles today, this closure is in place until the repairs are completed.
Tomorrow, Saturday, we have a significant amount of bike traffic on Route 5 south from the Fairlee line to Route 113 across the bridge to Lyme. Please use extreme caution in this area tomorrow.
Finally, we continue to thank our community for your patience and support. This will be long recovery and we will continue to provide updates while these is this emergent need.
