Emergency Management Update 7/5/17 8:52pm
The Emergency Operations Center closed this evening at 5pm after another busy day of road repair and damage assessment. As DPW and the trucks from various contractors and neighboring towns worked to continue to rebuild our roads, our emergency crews today continued their focus on assessing driveways that would be inaccessible for emergency vehicles. In addition, we added traffic barrels to provide more warning about trouble spots on road shoulders etc.
Latham road was reopened to traffic today after a tremendous effort by the road crews. Work also made Godfrey road, Robinson Hill road and Tucker Hill road much safer.
Jersey barriers and temporary traffic control signals were added to Tucker Hill just east of UV Dam gate and on Route 132 between Tucker Hill and Ulman rd. These will remain in place for some time as the road work in this area is significantly more complicated. Additionally, jersey barriers were placed on Gove Hill Road just up from Route 132.
As you know, many of our gravel roads are passable, but very rough. Barrels and barricades remain in place in many areas. It is for your safety that these warning devices are in place. Please DO NOT move cones, barricades or signs.
Per the Army Corps of Engineers project manager, please do not enter the Union Village Dam area through any of the gates or the trails. The area has been severely damaged, the roads are impassable and continuing to crumble, and there is still a large amount of water being held back creating a pond and over the roads in that area. This water is NOT safe as there is a tremendous amount of debris in the water including portable toilets. The gates are locked and access needs to be limited to the clean-up crews and Army Corps personnel only. Signs have been posted on all of the gates.
If you had flooding within your residence, please do let me know. You can email the information.
Finally, we continue to thank our community for your patience and support. This will be long recovery and we will continue to provide updates while these is this emergent need.
